Stardate May 10, 2018
Well this morning we woke up in forested wetlands that
resemble Alaska! No more flat wheat
fields that’s for sure!! Lots of skinny
little spruce-like trees and little ponds and lakes. Saw a beaver dam (but no beaver) first thing
on opening the blinds.
The secret name of today’s blog is “Looking for Moose in
Canada”
We stopped in Winnipeg last night and gained a few more
passengers. AND a third engine – and the
train is flying through the countryside now.
I think they are trying to make up for lost time. One of the passengers ran a pool yesterday to
see when we would arrive in Winnipeg, and how long was the train and how much
did it weigh. Well I won the part for
how long the train was (2300 feet) . We
have 23 cars – we lost a few in Edmonton – and we had 50 passengers so that is
an average of 2 people per car! Some of
the cars are completely empty (we know because we have to walk through them on
our way to meals every day) because they are deadheading to Toronto. The train people tell us they will be
completely full on the return trip. We
arrived in Winnipeg at about 5:55 pm and departed about 7pm.
Since we are supposed to be in Toronto RIGHT NOW I expect
there are a bunch of grumpy people in Toronto.
We canceled our hotel reservation in Montreal and are hoping to catch up
to our original itinerary which has us leaving at 6pm tomorrow.
OKAY – Justin our new room steward just cam by and said they
just saw 2 huge moose in the lake!
Fine – signing off to look for moose…..
