Here we are sweating to death in the tropics (by choice...) and today's excursion took us out of the heat and up into the hills. Birgit already regaled you with Kalaupapa so I get to talk about Rudolph Meyers sugar mill.
At the Molokai Museum and Sugar Cane mill we met Monique! She and mom became best buddies while Birgit and I hiked up the hill to the mill. Here is Monique and mom
And the sugar cane mill was interesting too. It was built in the late 1800's by a guy who came here from Germany. We got to see a short video about it, that showed it I operations. Basically there was a grinder that was was kept turning by a donkey, and it squeezed the juice out of the cane. Then it went to drying pans that were heated and voila --- sugar!
