This was our first island. The only cars are the garbage truck (tiny) and the doctor. The rest walk or take a donkey or take a water taxi. I called them vaporettos, thinking of Venice. It’s delightful! The donkeys haul groceries, construction supplies, people, heavy suitcases and on and on.
I have to quote the Rickster:
Hilfe Hydra is generally quiet, dawn teaches visitors the exact meaning of “cockcrow.” The end of the night is marked with a much more than a distant cock-a-doodle doo; it’s a dissonant chorus of cat fights, burrow honks, and what sounds like a roll call at an asylum for crazed roosters.
We spent most of our time in the main town but hoofed it along the coast road from town to down to the beaches. Had a drink and took the water taxi back.
