The roads in Namibia fall into several categories. The blue highways are the “tarred” or paved roads and thus the main roads that the truckers stick to. The run from Walvis Bay east has plenty of these. The rest of the roads are D roads—graded but a range of gravel and sand. Seems like they maintain them with graders who sleep in these wheeled sheepherder’s wagon and must do segments and then move on. F and below are rough rough roads. I’d guess 1/3 are blue and 1/3 are D. We have been on all so far. Namib was the most deeply sandy and 4x4 only. Today that led to our current lodgings, Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp, tented rooms with open air (read: no barrier) private baths. No walking around at night says David our host as we are in an area where wild animals could be, like ELEPHANTS. Tomorrow we are going on a game drive, so brace yourself for photos. Today we are totally enchanted by our lodgings, open air and awesome. There is a pool! Jim assured us the rocks are not going to fall on us.
I can say that this far our travel agent has 100% delivered on our places to stay: lovely settings, amazing ecolodges and excellent food. All unique.
