I am always interested in churches as they often have interesting art. More so, they are pretty great representation of architectural styles as they are maintained well long after the more mundane structures have fallen to ruin.
Two churches here.
St Franscis de Asis is an 18th century building constructed of mud and straw bricks and is a National Historic Landmark. The notable thing for me are the huge buttresses they utilized to keep the walls standing. This is a great example of the cross between Spanish and Pueblo styles.
The next place is the Santuariode Chimayo. Oh wow. The church was built over a site of holy soil over 200 years ago and is now called the Lourdes of America. During the Holy Week thousand as in 30,000
People walk from Santa Fe and Albuquerque for the healing powers. There is a whole room with crutches lined up and the shrines are all over. And a long line of crosses as well.
