This is a shared Karen and Birgit post. We have been seeing some amazing rock formations the last 2 days. Fortunately Jim has taught us well and we are amateur geologists! Today as we headed down the river canyon we came to the Palisades where the Palisade Sill is, a sheer wall of palisade basalt rising from the trout filled stream like a monsterous pipe organ. And the Devil’s Post box.
Then we drove further down the road and saw metamorphosed rock. And more metamorphosed rock.
And a mine but who know what is being mined .
Further on we came to the Rio Grande Rift where said river used to be at the level of the top. It has eroded down to its present position. Super deep. We walked across the 1500 ft suspension bridge, Karen clenching.
