It’s All in the Details

These pics are mainly from the baroque things we saw, where the cherubs and faces were of interest. Sometimes you look at the whole façade of a church or other building and it is frankly a firehose of carvings and embellishments.

I tried to see the finer details and amusing additions.

This was from an oratorio in Palermo, so more…irreverent cherubic depictions were allowed

Monreale: the cloister supports were all different

Taormina, just a simple door knocker. I think I want one !

This and the next are courtesy of Bryce

One has to wonder if this fine work was done by an apprentice, just as it is “simple” for Monreale

Disapproving or does he have a headache?

A griffin!!
