Thomas and Johanna live in Travemünde, a borough of Lubeck. It began life as a fortress by the Duke of Saxony, Henry the Lion and then was taken over by the Danes. That was then. Now it’s a seaside resort, and there are Victorian hotels which dot the beach, where there is a wide promenade. It’s the end of the season now, and the ‘strandkoerbe’ are being packed up and taken into storage.
Travemünde is at the mouth of the Trave, and a town of seafarers and wooden ships. This makes for a beautiful harbor. Lucky us, there is also a Niederegger’s in there. And also there is a sweet old town sector.
That green thingy; it was the prior buoy marking the center of the harbor to mark the east and west zones which also acted as the caution to not stray too close to the east zone where only soldiers were allowed. It was pulled out of the harbor and kept as a reminder in 1990.
So pretty!
