The Great Heathrow Airport

Are we there yet? Well, depends on what you consider to be ‘there.’  We are in the almost correct time zone, wrong hemisphere.  This is Heathrow, which is the size of a small town. I half expect to see the eyes of Doctor TJ Eckleburg watching over us during the 7 hour layover.

A town that has a ridiculous amount of duty free shops.  On 2 possibly 3 levels.  What are they selling.  Whisky, watches and fur purses.  Yes you read that right.   Who could possibly want a designer fur purse?

There is a dearth of public art, but there is a Harry Potter store (naturally).  We are all working on around 4 hours sleep +/-.  Bryce is actually pretty sparky, stating she has been training for this her whole life!

Here in the BA lounge there are massages, showers (maybe later) and food, including afternoon tea and sandwiches (so refined).

Covid wise:  actually a fair amount of masklessness.  Not just people who are eating/drinking, but in general.  And people who are using the excuse of a glass of coffee/champagne to justify leaving their mask off.  Seattle has this beat for sure.  The plane was fine, no bad actors.   My only guess is there is the false belief that the masks are less needed here in the land of waiting cuz everyone figures they are vaccinated and possess a negative Covid test.    Hmmmmm.   Place is still plenty crowded, and indoors.
