The Lion King

Interesting day today, basically 2 events: in the morning we visited N/a’an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary. Look up Angelina Jolie and Namibia. She has been a major financial supporter in the form of activism and a foundation for this huge preserve. They do a bunch of things but one is working on wildlife rehabilitation and, where able, rewilding. It’s a tricky and controversial topic, as many of the animals are rescues from infancy where the parents had become habituated or were killed and the babies have been raised here, and cannot be rewilded. But they do the reintroduction when able. So seeing animals in (huge huge) fenced enclosures is...complicated. (I’m talking acres and acres).  I think it is best not to romanticize Namibia and the realities of wildlife and human interaction and we had the opportunity to go on the big cat feeding drive and took it. We saw cheetahs, leopards, caracals, African wild dogs (endangered) and lions. Up close. The caracals jump something crazy high (a way to hunt birds, evidently there are no guinea fowl or doves who make it long there).

In the afternoon we went on a drive on the land holdings where we are staying. Basically 4 wheeling in a Land Rover, caught the sunset. Got to see a herd of leaping kudus and a bunch of mountain zebras. And more. Will try to add a pano shot...
