Karen and Libby are SAFELY in Seattle! The Adventure Begins.....
Greetings dear Blog readers;
For those of you not following Alaskan Weather - we have had a severe reawakening of WINTER. The weather turned bad over the weekend, with snow, and then cold, and then more snow and then cold. So - while I was originally scheduled to depart from Alaska on Friday for out BIG ITALIAN TRIP, Jim convinced me to consider leaving on Thursday. The weather on Wednesday sealed the deal - it was flat NASTY. We had to shovel many times to get rid of accumulating snow.
Jim also was changing his travel plans to go to Ketchikan on Thursday. (For those of you Jim Baichtal Folllowers: he is speaking Friday night at the Ketchikan Museum and Saturday afternoon at the Discovery Center in Ketchikan on Alaskan dinosaur fossils along with Ray Troll and Pat Druckenmiller) Libby was the smartest - she was planning on going to Ketchikan on Thursday all along.
The weather guessers had only predicted a dusting of snow on Wednesday night and Jim actually got up at 3am to check. No snow at 3 but when the alarms went off at 4:30am there was a bunch of snow....
Well - we got to shovel, drive in the dark in the snow and we made it to the ferry by 7am
Alaska Air had issues too - and the flight Libby and I were booked on started the day 1 and half hours late and by the time we reached Ketchikan the flight was 3 hours late and not looking good.
LUCKILY - the early morning flight from Juneau to Ketchikan and then Seattle was also very late and Libby and I were able to jump on the earlier flight. We made it to Seattle by 2:30 and are all tucked in at our various places of lodging.
STAY TUNED FOR MORE ADVENTURES><
