Riddle me this: in the front seats Jim and Bryce have 3-4 bars of LTE and here in the back seats we have no connectivity. I do not understand.

Where in the world is Mom?

Ok things have been running smoothly so far, I actually even slept on the last 2 flights! We got off the plane here in Copenhagen and have a 2 hour layover before picking up the last leg. This is where it gets interesting. The transition to the flight to Hamburg was in the E concourse and we were in B. They do a nice job with signage and even tell you how long it will take to walk there (15 minutes) Karen had set up Mom with wheelchair assistance and there was a nice fellow who had her on his lost along with several other folks needing assistance. The cart can hold 5 passengers and was full. Heck there was a guy on oxygen, mom, and another couple who were wobbly. Naturally Karen and I elected to walk. We chatted about the flight we were catching and the nice fellow knew the details and said that this flight involved a series of stairs. (He didn’t mention the bus!) no matter, he said he would bring her all the way to the plane. Mom was fine, she has her passport and boa...

Volcano watching. Updated.

We met the luckiest man in the world today. Gisli Gislason is the helicopter pilot for Reykavik Helicopters who took us on a private volcano ride today. I can hardly come up for the words for this experience. AMAZING is one. We left from downtown Reykavik and flew (over the President’s house) to the Reykjanes peninsula. This is the southwestern arm of Iceland where the airport is, as well as the Blue Lagoon (more on that later) and the nexus of all of the last few year’s volcanic activity here. In fact, when Jo and Mark were in Iceland not 6 weeks ago, it was erupting. But sadly it stopped. For now. The entire area is a lava field, with active lava tubes underneath the town of Grindvik, which has resulted in the evacuation of the town, and compensation of the town’s citizens for their loss of home. The road to this area is also the road to the Blue Lagoon. It was covered in lava and had to be rebuilt/rerouted. ...

Good News Bad News

We were due to fly last evening, but literally 15 minutes prior to boarding the flight was cancelled due to technical reasons. Took Iceland Air several hours to sort it all out, evidently they rebooked the entire flight onto the next day, but had to bump arriving passengers coming in from Europe to make it all happen, then bussed the people what appears to be all over western Iceland. Reminder that the tourist high season is still in full swing, it was Friday night so the folks from IA were probably sweating bullets trying to find the last hotel rooms from Keflavík to Selfoss to Bifröst. Look it up. It must have taken 2-2 1/2 hours to get there last night. Fortunately Mom looked appropriately pathetic in her wheelchair and they didn’t do that to us, we were placed in a very nice hotel in Reykavik downtown area. Which can only mean ONE THING: More geocaches for Birgit!!! But this also means we can enjoy another beautiful sunny day in Ic...
