Today we headed to Rotorua for some geothermal action. This is one of the most active areas in the world, and since we’ve been to Iceland and Yellowstone this is super interesting for us! But we were actually not really heading there, rather to the raptor center (Wingspan Birds of Prey) which is a non profit that does flying demonstrations of some of their raptors.
Photos of the demonstration birds below I can’t remember what kind they are! One is a barn owl, which is now native they flew here from Australia a few decades ago. This is not as well developed as the raptor park north of Victoria but still super cool.
But first we had some time to kill and poked around in a city park in Rotorua which has steaming pools, bubbling mud pots and sulfuric smells. In a CITY PARK. This park was developed in the 1930’s and now has playfields picnic areas and places to soak your feet. And steaming stuff….
