Where we talk about food

Most of the time we have had food that is good to excellent. There is lots of lamb and beef (no surprise there ) and some fish we don’t know. Seems ok. There are some highlights:

The venison carpaccio for instance.

There is this fun find called real fruit ice cream: vanilla ice cream blended with frozen fruit ( berries, mango, passion fruit etc)— it is less sweet. Sausage rolls are variably mediocre and good (I know, it sounds less appetizing than it is).  Oh the wine is good too. As is the ginger beer.

We have liked the the steak and ale pies (with hot water crust pastry! I know this because I watch Great British Bake Off). Bryce and I had these amazing baos yesterday with these delicious toppings, best I have ever had.

But there is one thing I simply do not understand: this country has a bit of an obsession with beets (beetroot as they call it here) and somehow there is a habit of, brace yourself, putting a thick slice of BEET on their hamburgers!! What on earth??
