Travemunde, Deutschland
Dear Blog Readers;
We are finally settled in northern Germany at the home of Johanna and Thomas and we have a day where we can just sit around and visit, and do laundry (oh boy!!)
We just spent the past few days in the former Eastern Germany. In previous trips to Europe we never had the chance to see this area. Birgit did visit Berlin in the days when the wall was still in place but that has been more than 30 years.
It is interesting that while many things have changed there are others that are still the same. We had a chance to visit the home of a man named Karl Foerster. He was a famous horticulturist who lived near Potsdam and developed a fantastic garden. His fame came from both the development of several variety of perennial flowers but also with the use of grasses as ornamental plants. He liked grouping certain plants so that there was always something blooming.
You can read about him at this web page: www.karl-foerster-150.de
It was nice that this garden was not taken out by the East German government.
