Making the jump to Moloka’i

Well it took a day, with 2 flights and 2 car trips but we are now sweetly ensconced in our little villa.  There is a fantastic screened porch where Mom and I are enjoying the cool morning air, and listening to the cardinals, mynas, sparrows and finches.  More on them in another post.

This one is about Maui and Lahaina.  I did not realize that the little plane (just like going to Klawock!) we would take to Moloka’i would fly right over Lahaina.  What a shock.  That horrible fire was in 2023 and we all saw the news.  In the airport, there was a central courtyard with a posted sign explaining all the potted trees.  They are being held in reserve for the people of Lahaina to plant when they are ready.  Sobering thought.  There really is only one road out to this area.  And it was windy yesterday so it all tracks a bit more when you are there.  But flying overhead told the story too.  The lack of buildings and the difference between this town the one just down the road was notable.  Recovery takes time.
