Good Works and Good Food

One of the interesting features of the tour group we are using (G Adventures) is their focus on environment and charity.  We have now visited 2 organizations that are supported by G Adventures (among others) to foster positive change.  The first was KymViet, the Hanoi organization working to help employ people who are deaf-mute, and the 2nd we visited here in Hoi An.  This was called Oodles of Noodles, and it works to support disadvantaged, homeless, at risk and trafficked youth with healthcare, education and job training in the restaurant industry.  Most are guaranteed jobs, and often supervisory or chef positions after completing the program.

With Oodles of Noodles, we got to try 5 types of noodles, do a market tour to discuss different vegetables, sauces and noodles and actually made rice pancakes.  All the while eating noodles.

This also dovetails nicely with the topic of food.  Fantastic.  Lots of fresh vegetables!  Noodles and rice!  Papaya, passionfruit, melon, citrus, oh my! The only thing less than stellar are their baked goods, but different palate.  Noodle soup for breakfast with tea +sweetened condensed milk (oh yum).  The chilies are optional but delicious!
