Social Work as Art

On the way to Ha Long Bay is a place to stop, get snacks and see another social works program which supports people who were disabled from the war or have other disabilities. More people who are deaf mute work here. This is Hong Ngoc Humanitarian Center which does job training and employment and has served thousands of people over the last 30 years. One skill is embroidery which is a traditional form for Vietnam, as well as lacquered art and stone carvings. Karen is covering the rocks. Each embroidered piece can take upwards of a month to create and are beautiful depictions of life in this country. The carvings, while not my style, are exquisite.
