Wrangell Alaska
Dear Readers (I like to say that because I think it makes me sound like Miss Manners)
Today we are enroute to Sitka and then Juneau but yesterday afternoon we stopped in Wrangell Alaska (we also stopped in Petersburg but we were already asleep by then)
Wrangell is a small town with a very long history. It is one of the oldest towns in Alaska and was named after a Russian Explorer, Ferdinand Petrovich Wrangel. At some point later a cartographer that could not spell added the extra "L" on the end. Probably the same guy who put the extra "E" on the end of Thorne in Thorne Bay
We only had time to run into town to nab a few photos and a geocache for Birgit
The most interesting fact about Wrangell is that Wyatt Earp was the sherriff here for about 10 days in 1897 on his way to the gold fields (ultimately in Nome but that is a different story) I was listening to some people talking about this and one of them said "who is Wyatt Earp" so there you have it. A Has Been.
So here are some photos of Wrangell:
